The best way by far is to use the forum. That way, if someone else has a similar question, it will be there for all to see.
Your website should first and foremost be something you know about and are passionate about. Why? Because you will be spending a lot of time in your market / niche. You should pick your topic, domain name, and primary keyword carefully. But make sure, no matter what, that it is something you enjoy doing!
How long it takes depends entirely on YOU! But, I will tell you this. Don't expect instant results. A lot of programs will try and sell you on the fact that once you buy a certain program you'll have $400 the next day. Not true. Building a profitable website takes traffic, a lot of it and just like a regular brick and mortar store, it takes time for people to find your new website. "If you build it, they will come" is not true on the internet.
